The Language of Love in Morocco

Morocco, one of the gems of North Africa, is the country with significant rich and active traditions. Like many cultures of the world, a Moroccan wedding is a great gala event as it is celebrated with many family and friends. According to Moroccan customs and traditions, a Moroccan wedding can take up to three days to seven days, depending on the family and region of Morocco.  The various festivities are an ideal opportunity to bring Moroccan families and friends together and reveals the richness of Moroccan customs and traditions through various clothing, art music and of course cuisine, which is represented through a range of delicious dishes.




Before the wedding ceremony, the bride holds a henna party with her female relatives and closest friends. Henna has been used in Morocco for centuries and is used today to create intricate decorative designs that are mainly applied on the palms and feet of the bride and the bridesmaid. The henna designs have a number of various meanings, including protection against the evil eye, bringing good luck and increasing fertility.

 After the pre wedding ceremonies in Morocco, it’s time to describe the major happening, the celebration of love and fondness of two people. The official marriage ceremony begins with the custom called Berza. It is during the Berza where the bride is shown to the attendants of the wedding in her wedding dress, adorned with the traditional jewellery, heavy bridal make-up, and of course a big smile on her face. As the bride makes her grand entry, all the guests stand around her, admiring her and celebrating the beginning of the new community between the bride and the groom. There is a special group of women called Neggafates are obliged to make the best of appearance of the couple, they are required to take care of the couple and no Moroccan marriage can occur without their presence. Their main task is to help with traditional Moroccan dresses, make up, jewellery, hair styling, etc. They assist Moroccan couple to look their best in their wedding ceremony combining modern Moroccan wedding, style and fashion taste with an adequate traditional touch.

In traditional Lebanese weddings when a guy has found a girl they want to marry, they guy’s side sends his family over to the girls side of the family for a marriage proposal. The guy’s side of the family goes to the girl side of the house at least three time.
